Pittsburgh Triangles
When we think of Pittsburgh championship teams from the 70s, we all think of the same team. That’s right - the Pittsburgh Triangles. The Triangles were a tennis team that played their home games at the Civic Arena. Donning green and bright yellow, they didn’t have the usual colors you were used to seeing a Pittsburgh team wear.
Yet, after the 1975 season, they absolutely looked the part of a Pittsburgh franchise. They managed to beat the San Francisco “Golden Gaters” in just their second season as a team to win a world championship.
Though successful in their short stint, the Triangles would only last three full seasons before folding in 1976, but their legend lives on.
